"THE ODD DUCK" is A FABLE about a duck named Emm who
became separated from her parents at an early age, forgot she could fly, and
was RAISED LIKE AN ORPHAN BY DYSFUNCTIONAL CHICKENS in a chicken coop. Author TOM O'CONNELL HAS WRITTEN MANY ARTICLES ON THE PROBLEMS
FACED BY ADULT CHILDREN OF DYSFUNCTIONAL HOMES. In this story he describes
how Emm tries to be like the chickens, but all her trying can't make her
into one. So she is a duck who feels very alone and different. EMM IS AN
OUTSIDER SURROUNDED BY CHICKENS WHO THINK SHE'S VERY ODD, and she feels very
uncomfortable emotionally. Another duck named Tee, who understands her plight, serves as Emm's
GUIDE TO PERSONAL GROWTH. But she doesn't trust him at first, so the
suspense builds about whether she will continue to see herself as "EmmTee"
or feel like part of a "TeeEmm" in the new friendship.
The story is WRITTEN FROM THE HEART, and combines WISDOM, INSIGHT,
AND HUMOR. The author tells the reader about Emm's struggles, her confusion,
her "tunnel" experience, her life as a "chicken duck,"
and the way SHE LEARNS TO FIND COURAGE, HEALING, AND LOVE. . This book was definitely written for odd people of all ages. So if
you have felt like an outsider at one time or another...THIS BOOK WILL WARM
YOUR HEART. I laughed and I cried as I wrote this little book. It was a labor
of love, and it has given me great joy to have people tell me they were
inspired by it. From this little fable, people have gained greater
understanding about their own journey of recovery from childhood wounds. I recently got a note from a reader which I will share with you: Dear Tom: I just finished reading your book, "The Odd Duck: A Story for
Odd People of All Ages" and wanted to let you know how it touched my
Spirit and truly made me feel alive, present and accounted for. IT IS A
LIFE-AFFIRMING ALLEGORY OF THE JOURNEY WE MUST ALL MAKE TOWARD MENTAL AND
SPIRITUAL HEALTH, a journey I have postponed until recently. I can assure
you that it will be one of those books that I will take off the shelf and
read from time to time whenever I feel lost and EmmTee. Thank you. And THANK
YOU FOR HAVING THE INSPIRATION TO WRITE THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU DO. Sincerely, Jayne B. This is the kind of note that makes a writer realize how powerful
the impact may be when the written word strikes a responsive chord in a
reader's heart. And a note like this makes me very grateful to the Divine
Author for using me as a channel to carry his messages... EXCERPTED from The Odd Duck: A Story for Odd People of All Ages

know I'm basically a duck but I live in a chicken's world. And deep down
inside I just feel like a very odd duck. Do you ever feel like a very odd
panda?" Page 41...Tee started singing again: "I'm free. I'm free. I'm free to be exactly me. I'm free. I'm free. I'm free to be exactly me. I am who I am and that's who I must be. I'm happy to be free and I'm happy to be me." Bostonia Magazine "In A CHEERFUL, PUNNING LITTLE ALLEGORY mostly for grownups a
duck raised in a chicken coop learns satisfaction with who she is on her way
to finding healthy, lasting love." Seniors Cape Cod Forum "Tom O'Connell's newest book is A PARABLE FOR THE SPIRITUAL
REAWAKENING that begins when someone recognizes that feeling odd is not
necessarily the beginning of conforming behaviors but rather a search for
the behaviors that are right and good for you. How many of us have left a
relationship feeling not quite whole or correct?" |
